Dr Nicole Arthur
Clinical Psychologist
BHMS (Ed) B Arts (Psych) (Hons) D Psych (Clinical)
Psychology Board of Australia-approved Supervisor (Clinical Psychology)
Nicole has had over 15 years’ experience as a clinical psychologist, providing successful evidence-based therapy in a variety of settings, ranging from university clinics, hospitals, community health organisations and large not-for-profit psychology practises. Over the last decade she has worked in a busy private clinic in Brisbane of which she was one of the founding directors.
Being a psychologist has given Nicole the wonderful opportunity to work with a diverse range of people both in terms of age, gender and life experience. She particularly enjoys the ability to be able to deliver individually tailored therapy to each client, as determined by their specific presentation, historical context and collaborative goals. Compassion, warmth, validation and acceptance in combination with at times gentle humour encourages safe and trusting therapeutic relationships with her clients as she supports them through their therapy journey.
Research and ongoing education and training of others, as well as herself, have also been important components of her career in psychology. Nicole has been extensively involved in research at The University of Queensland. Projects included investigating the role of psychosocial factors such as depression, social support and medication adherence in readmission to hospital at 6 months, and as lead researcher of a large-scale, partially government funded Indigenous Triple – P research trial across Queensland, Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Victoria.
Nicole was an Honorary Lecturer for the UQ School of Psychology and continues to contribute to the postgraduate Clinical Psychology Training program through the supervision of registered psychologists and other health workers in her status as a Psychology Board of Australia-approved Supervisor.
