Nearly one in two Australians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime and depression is the most common mental health disorder. In Australia mental illnesses are the leading cause of the non-fatal disease burden, i.e., the total years of healthy life lost through illness and disease in Australia due to mental illness is 24%. In recent years, the stigma of mental illness has certainly improved, however there are still more work to be done on reducing stigma of psychological disorders and improving access to appropriate treatment to assist individuals with their prognosis and recovery.
