Michelle Stobie

Provisional Psychologist

Michelle is a Provisional Psychologist completing her Master of Psychology (Clinical) at the University of New England, where she has maintained a Distinction Plus academic average.  She has experience providing psychological assessment and evidence-based therapy across the lifespan within both community and public mental health settings.

Michelle has experience working within a specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) and Eating Disorder Service (CASEDS) with NSW Health, supporting young people aged 12-18 experiencing eating disorders, anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, neurodivergence, emotional dysregulation, and complex psychosocial challenges.  She has experience conducting risk assessments, safety planning, psychometric assessment, and collaborative multidisciplinary care.

Additionally, Michelle has provided individual outpatient therapy to clients ranging from children aged 7 years through to older adults aged 78 years, supporting presentations including anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, personality vulnerabilities, and relational difficulties.  She primarily utilised Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) while adapting her therapeutic approach to suit the unique needs and presentations of each client, incorporating principles from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) where appropriate.  Michelle also administered psychometric and cognitive assessments, conducted school observations, provided psychoeducation within educational settings, and collaborated closely with teachers, school counsellors, and psychologists to support client outcomes.

Michelle adopts a warm, authentic, and collaborative therapeutic style and values tailoring treatment to the individual needs of each client.  While grounded in CBT, she works flexibly and integratively, drawing from ACT, Family-Based Therapy (FBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and psychodynamic-informed approaches where appropriate.  She has a strong interest in ongoing professional development and intends to undertake further training in Schema Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Michelle is passionate about mental health across the lifespan and hopes to pursue future research through a PhD focused on mental health and wellbeing in older adults.  She is committed to helping clients feel understood, supported, and empowered to create meaningful change in their lives.
