Couples therapy provides a structured, supportive environment for partners to discuss issues, improve communication, and rebuild trust. A psychologist facilitates conversations, identifies patterns of conflict, and helps you develop practical tools to strengthen your relationship. Each session focuses on understanding both perspectives and creating shared solutions.

Any couple can benefit, whether you’re in crisis, facing ongoing stress, or simply wanting to enhance your relationship. Therapy can assist married, de facto, or long-term partners looking to manage conflict, navigate major life changes, or improve emotional intimacy.

The number of sessions varies depending on your goals and circumstances. Some couples benefit from short-term therapy focused on specific issues, while others may prefer ongoing support for deeper growth and communication improvement. Typically, sessions occur weekly or fortnightly.

Yes. All sessions are conducted in a confidential and professional setting. Information shared in therapy remains private and is not disclosed to third parties, except where required by law or ethical guidelines under the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA).

Ideally, couples attend sessions together to foster communication and mutual understanding. However, in some cases, individual sessions may be recommended as part of the therapeutic process to explore personal concerns impacting the relationship.

No referral is required to access couples therapy at Sure Psychology. You can book directly as a private client. However, note that Medicare rebates do not apply to relationship counselling, as it is not a clinical service under the Better Access initiative.

It’s common for one partner to feel unsure about starting therapy. Our psychologists create a supportive space where both individuals feel heard and respected. The process focuses on building trust, understanding, and shared motivation to improve the relationship.
